Sarees represent a real investment, and the wrong care decision (a delicate silk run through a home wash cycle, or a long-term fold left untouched in a humid climate) can permanently damage a piece that a small adjustment in cleaning or storage habits would have protected. Frequently Asked Questions
It's best not to. Silk risks colour bleed and texture damage from home washing. Dry cleaning from a cleaner experienced with delicate fabric is the safer route, especially if there's any embellishment.
Keep them in a breathable cotton or muslin bag rather than sealed plastic, add a silica gel packet or moisture absorber, and check on stored sarees every few weeks for any musty smell or spotting.
Refold along different lines roughly every 2-3 months. Storing a saree folded the same way for months at a time can set permanent crease lines and weaken the fabric along the folds.
